HONORING MIAMI'S BAHAMIAN ROOTS-

"LITTLE BAHAMAS"

“Little Bahamas” in Coconut Grove is a historic neighborhood steeped in the rich cultural heritage of Bahamian settlers who played a pivotal role in shaping the area’s identity. Dating back to the late 19th Century, this enclave was a thriving hub of Bahamian culture, characterized by vibrant communities, colorful architecture, and bustling markets. Settlers like Ebenezer Woodbury Franklin Stirrup left an enduring legacy, contributing their skills in farming, carpentry, and limestone construction to the development of Coconut Grove. Today, remnants of “Little Bahamas” can still be found in the neighborhood’s architecture, cuisine, and community traditions, serving as a testament to the enduring impact of Bahamian culture on the fabric of Miami’s history.
